The Campo de Cartagena region is leading a pioneering model of smart irrigation and water sustainability.

Published on

The Campo de Cartagena region has become a national and international example of how agriculture can lead the way in sustainability without sacrificing productivity. With more than 1,000 active sensors, precision fertigation systems, and intensive use of artificial intelligence applied to irrigation, the region represents one of the most technologically advanced agricultural environments in the world.

This model, which combines technology, science and environmental commitment, will be one of the protagonists of Hortifruit 2025, the international agricultural fair taking place from November 20th to 22nd in Torre Pacheco (Murcia). The event will bring together experts, companies, and research centers that are paving the way toward a more efficient and resilient agri-food future.

The region, which exports more than 70% of its fruit and vegetable production, generates nearly 47,000 jobs and contributes 37% of the regional GDP. Its experience in the use of reclaimed water, natural denitrification, and pond renaturalization has become a key reference for other territories undergoing ecological transition.

Hortifruit 2025 It will offer spaces for debate, demonstrations, and networking, where initiatives such as the "smart bio-irrigation" program in Campo de Cartagena will serve as meeting points for innovation, sustainability, and business. The fair thus reaffirms its commitment to the transformation of the fruit and vegetable sector and to the dissemination of agricultural models that are already making change possible.
